Patti Flewelling is a nurse by profession but thinks playing music is SO MUCH FUN!! She plays the flute, bones, shakers, tambourine and provides background vocals for the band. She was called the "highest flying female on the East Coast" in 1975 when she jumped off Sugarloaf Mountain, Maine in her hang-glider.
Many places in the world have been called home including Japan, Panama and the Caribbean so she truly is a Flying Gypsy. She and her husband, Larry, built a 30 foot Cowhorn schooner, Runnin' Bare, in St. John, USVI and sailed her around the Caribbean before moving to Gainesville in 1990.
Runnin' Bare anxiously awaits the day when Patti and Larry decide to retire to a less hectic pace, put up the sails and head for ports unknown. If you are on vacation at some island retreat and hear the sound of a flute coming from a boat in the harbor, it just might be Patti calling to local musicians to get together and jam. But until that day, she will be a Flying Gypsy with the band enjoying every second of it!
