Mike was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He played Baritone in the school band and learned to play guitar at about age 12 from a childhood friend. First guitar song was House of the Rising Sun. Prior musical experience is limited to a handful of gigs performed with the proverbial high school garage band.
Moving to Gainesville in 1978 to study architecture at the University of Florida he holds Bachelor of Design (1981) and Master of Architecture (1986) degrees. Specializing in residential design he opened Burke Design Studio in 1990, which currently is gearing up its web site to sell plans on the Internet. He currently holds the position Director of Design for Barry Rutenberg Homes, a builder of luxury homes.
Mike has been with his High School sweetheart, Teri, for over thirty years, married for the last 25. Together they have two children, Jason and Caitlin.
